Rubella: Symptoms and treatment

April 2nd, 2010 by Stand Team

• Characteristics:
It is also a disease illness.

• How develops:
The incubation is two weeks of average before the outbreak of the eruption. The period of contagion is two days before until the disappearance of the eruption. What difference to the rubella measles is essentially that is accompanied by adenomegalias (swells the nodes of the neck, armpits and groin). In addition, the rash may give itching. In some cases, it is difficult to differentiate the measles rubella.

Do not have mortality or complications, but in the women who have not had the disease in children and are becoming infected during pregnancy, occurs in the baby what is called the congenital rubella syndrome, which has a wide range of gravity. If it occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy can cause from malformations until the fetal death. If occurs during the last trimester of pregnancy, can bring problems in the hearing (deafness), in the light (cataracts, mirooftalmía, blindness) or microcephaly. It is therefore very important that before scheduling a pregnancy, women make a test to detect antibodies in the blood and in case of lack of them, receive the vaccine. The disease itself can affect any age but is more common in children.

• Treatment:
Consists only in heat. The swollen glands last a week and then return to normal.
