The Scribbles relate generally as a symbol of boredom and a short attention span, but a new study at the University of Plymouth in southwest England has shown that the scribbles assist the memory to recall.
The study took volunteers assigning a task of scribbles while listening a phone message boring and had an increase of 29 percent, to remember details, which was reported in the journal of cognitive psychology applied.
40 Participants were asked to listen for two and a half minutes a tape and entered the names of eight people discussing, as well as the names of places.
Half of the volunteers were told to make forms of shadow in a piece of paper at the same time and later to all participants were asked recall the names of the eight games assistants and the names of the sites included in the test.
Recalled on average 7.5 names of people and places, while the other group could only recall 5.8.
