Gender violence
January 11th, 2010 by Stand Team
Yesterday has been the International Day of Women and today we are discussing news related to the female sex against which all must be aware. According to the UN, the Aids virus is currently the main cause of death in those women of reproductive age.
But the most striking is that the proportion of female victims of this disease is linked to the gender differences. It is estimated that about 70 % of women in the world are forced to have unprotected sex and this, inevitably, increases their risk of the Aids virus.
So much so that in Sub-Saharan Africa, 60 percent of those infected with the virus are women and it is estimated that young girls are three times more chances of contracting the disease with regard to the men of the same age. AND despite the fact that they have already spent over 30 years after the discovery of the Aids virus, still do not offer treatments or services covering the specific needs of women.
Since the agency UNAIDS has condemned the violence toward women and requests to the society that steps be taken in this regard. Therefore, its main goal is to launch a campaign to combat Aids especially directed toward women, who count on educational programs and, of course, to integrate the theme of the gender violence in that it is an influence on the spread of disease.
