The problem of obesity in Peruvian women no longer must only be associated with diseases such as heart strokes, cerebrovascular disorders and diabetes mellitus. A recent research carried out in our country concluded that it is also related to an increased risk of breast cancer. If you want to know more about this topic, keep reading.
“To reach this conclusion was compared to the weight reported during most of the adult life in patients with breast cancer with the weight reported healthy patients; both were of the same age groups and shared similar characteristics,” explained to the Trade a physician Jose Ernesto Rojas Camayo, lead author of the work together to Ivan Huamaní de la Cruz.

Thus, found that women with this type of evil breast had approximately six kilos more on average than in healthy women, and in the same way to make the same comparisons between women pre and post-menopausal separately also gave similar results. “That yes, our work found that the risk of contracting the disease is much higher after menopause,” he said.

He explained that this situation occurs because the increase body fat is an increase in the levels of estrogen. “And these apparently have a high potential to cause cancer in the breast tissue”.

For this work, published in the “Experimental Medicine and Public Health,” they met successively to 123 patients diagnosed with this evil and to 208 healthy, for about a year and a half of the Service of Medical Oncology and Mammography of the National Hospital Archbishop Loayza.

FIRST IN THE COUNTRY
So far has not done any similar research in our country. “Abroad have been done studies where you have given emphasis to the obesity as an important risk factor for breast cancer, mainly in women after menopause. However, found that obesity is a factor protector for women before menopause,” says Rojas.

“Contrary to what found in these studies, our results showed that also young women (premenopausal) can have a risk of breast cancer by effect of obesity,” he added.

According to researcher Rojas Camayo, these cases should not be presented, as it considered that obesity is a risk factor that can be capable of control with a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise. “If people to worry in not to accumulate too much weight, many diseases could be prevented and would avoid pass bad times at early ages as a result of the diseases associated with obesity,” he said.

To monitor the food from boys
The nutritionist Maria del Pilar Cereceda asserts that the obesity in the women can be controlled from the early years of life, since at that stage are formed the eating habits and patterns of consumption.

She has noted that the consumption of the vast majority of Peruvians is based on the high food intake with carbohydrates (sugars, bread, pasta and rice) and excessive consumption of fried foods, which leads to excess calories that tends to accumulate in the fatty tissue. “What is to be increased consumption of foods low in calories as vegetables and fruits,” he said.
